It will now position itself as the largest investor for the transmission of wind power in the Atlantic coast of the United States. Who knows? Maybe one day we carry our Google Mobile powered by Google. More after the jump.
The "Connecting Atlantic Wind" will collect the electricity generated in several wind farms and distributed on the coast, from New Jersey to Norfolk. Google's investment amounted to 3,600 million EURET (pennies) . Thus, the 563 km of the network, Google is responsible for a 37.5%, Good Energies of another 37.5% and Japan's Marubeni will 15%.
The project will be arranged by Trans-Elect, which will begin construction in 2013. At the earliest, it is estimated that completion happens on 2021. It is a very ambitious plan by the company, which nevertheless has been praised, especially by those who fight for the environment:
